TECHNOLOGY ENHANCED THERAPY

Along with Dr Gavin Doherty in TCD, Dr John Sharry is co-leader of the Technology in Mental Health Research Group which explores the application of  innovative technologies to support mental health care services.

The aim of the research is to develop and evaluate systems which complement traditional therapeutic approaches, and which offer mental health care professionals new ways of working more effectively with people experiencing mental health difficulties.

Specifically, in collaboration with the National Digital Research Centre the group have developed two e-mental health programmes that are currently being trialled

  1. Mind Balance is a cognitive behavioural therapy programme so support people overcoming  depression.
  2. See My Self is a psycho-educational programme to promote a healthy body image and self esteem.

Both programmes are available at TCD through the TCD Counselling Service , and See My Self is also available nationwide through Bodywhys, the eating disorder association of Ireland.
